All bets are off

Friday 31st July 2009 by Tim

Clear Books has just reached 50 paying customers. Yesterday I blogged about a bet I had with a former colleague which set 50 paying customers as the target for our first year, and with half a day to spare, all bets are off.

As we have only accepted payments since the beginning of July, we have actually reached 50 in our first month. This is a great start but only the beginning for Clear Books.

The five companies that responded to my post yesterday will get a special mention, as promised, in due course, but a big thank you is owed to all the companies that have stumbled upon us, liked our service, and have been willing to pay for it. It is a very satisfying endorsement.

If you are wondering why we are open about our sign up numbers, it is all part of our Open For Business approach.

UPDATE: Although the countdown to 50 customers is complete, the special introductory offer will remain in place over the weekend. This is leading up to a new promotion to be launched on Monday.

A bet that led to the Clear Books special offer

Thursday 30th July 2009 by Tim

I made a bet with a former colleague that within our first year Clear Books would reach 50 paying customers. The high stakes bet, recorded on a yellow post it note, would reward the winner with dinner.

Tomorrow marks that milestone but as we only started accepting payments at the beginning of July, I have given Clear Books very little time (31 days to be exact) to hit the target.

With one full day remaining in July, five more subscriptions are needed to seal victory and as tempting as it is to sign up five times myself and avoid the more expensive meal option, I will instead rely on our special offer promotion.

So if you are yet to subscribe or have already subscribed but know of someone who could benefit from our special offer then read on…

For one more day there is the opportunity to subscribe to our premium package for just five pounds per month for the first six months (usual price fifteen pounds per month). This is a saving of sixty pounds. There are no tie-ins and the subscription can be cancelled at any time.

If we do it, I will do a thank you blog for the five companies who helped push us over the threshold. So if you want a little promotion on the Clear Books blog, get ready with an overview about your small business.

You can see how many offers are left on the home page. It’s going to be close!

Cheers

Tim

Payments System Live

Tuesday 7th July 2009 by Tim

The payments system has now been live and operational for one week. It was very pleasing to see companies pay who we knew personally, who we knew as beta testers and also those companies who we didn’t know at all.

Making sure the payments system integrated properly was an important task especially when dealing with customers’ money. Coupled with that, I moved from North to West London last week and over the weekend (it seemed to drag on forever!) so it has been a particularly frantic time.

Over the next couple of days I will be

  • Catching up on feedback given on http://getsatisfaction.com/clearbooks and via email
  • Addressing a backlog of requests
  • Finishing off the accountant system area
  • Looking at prioritising and executing the next major feature (contenders being payroll, estimates, fixed assets, CIS reporting, permissions for multi-users, import tool ability from other accounting apps)
