Importing accounting data

Friday 11th December 2009 by Tim

There are a number of options available to get your historical accounting data set up on Clear Books.

Manageable volume of transactions

If you have online banking you can import your bank statements into Clear Books and explain all the transactions. This will populate your monthly income and costs and also ensure your bank balances reconcile.

If you do not have online banking you can manually input the data to re-create a bank statement and then follow the same procedure.

VAT Changes

Thursday 10th December 2009 by Tim

VAT is changing on  the 1 January 2010 with a return to 17.5% from the temporary rate of 15% imposed since 1 December 2008. This will affect VAT registered Clear Books users in the following ways.

Normal Invoicing

We have always had the option for both 17.5% and 15% in the VAT rate select boxes. Remember to use the 17.5% rate from 1 January 2010. We’ll warn you in the system if you enter an invoice date post 1 January 2010 and forget to use 17.5%.

Presets, Defaults, Recurring Invoices & Bank Import Rules

Where the rate is currently 15% we will automatically update to 17.5%.

Flat Rate Scheme

For users on the flat rate scheme we will close off your scheme so that from the 1 January 2010 you will be forced to enter your new flat rate percentage before you can continue using the system. The appropriate flat rate percentage will be applied to invoices dependent on invoice date (or payment date if cash accounting).

10 Tips For Speed Networking

Saturday 5th December 2009 by Nick

In our quest to spread the word about Clear Books and online accounting software the team headed down to the business start up exhibition that was held in Olympia just over a week ago, considering it is just across the road it would have been rude not to. It was a great event and from walking round the venue it was clear that accounting software was well represented in both online and offline forms.

One thing that caught our eye was the speed networking event.

Clear Books meets Enzo Calzaghe

Friday 4th December 2009 by Tim

He has trained one of the most successful British boxers of all time (Joe Calzaghe - 46 fights, 46 wins) and he has picked up a BBC sports coach of the year award along the way. He is Enzo Calzaghe and last night Clear Books bumped into him during a strategy meeting… in the pub.

He saw a lot of fighting spirit in this candidate…

…and thought these two would go the distance.

So please vote for us in the “Best Bootstrapped StartUp” category for a crunchie award. The crunchies are organised by technology blog TechCrunch. Click the badge below to vote.
