Following the recent explanation about our downtime we are determined to take significant steps forward with our hosting infrastructure.

As a growing business the CatN vCluster we have been hosted on has served its purpose, but it’s time to move on. We have outgrown this solution.

We are upgrading to a CatN pCluster. The difference is that a pCluster is a dedicated, private solution with a bespoke design. CatN currently hosts a blue chip customer on one of its pClusters.

We are also hiring a full time Sys Admin and I am pleased to say we posted a contract to a potential candidate today. This person will work in conjuction with the CatN engineers on site at CatN’s Aldershot and Woking data centres but will be 100% focused on Clear Books.

It is our absolute top priority to prevent the levels of downtime we have experienced ever happening again.

With a bespoke system, a dedicated Sys Admin and by eliminating points of failure we have a plan to ensure a much more stable platform going forward.

CatN is trying to do innovative things with virtual hosting i.e. its vCluster which is what Clear Books is currently hosted on. The CatN vCluster is also a beta product in the sense that its application (the control panel) is in beta. We’re upgrading to a dedicated hosting solution, a pCluster.

The vCluster has been a cost effective solution to date which means we have been able to offer our customers competitive prices. We have recognised that we now need to upgrade. Regarding Amazon we will have servers in CatN’s two DCs in Aldershot and Woking in addition to a third AWS fallback solution.

CatN has a vested interest in making sure that our problems are addressed as quickly as possible.
