Learn the basics about SEO and win new customers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1: Find popular keywords<br \/>\n<\/strong>Identify keywords people would search for when looking for your website. Perhaps it is &#8220;accountant London&#8221;, &#8220;builder Farnborough&#8221; or &#8220;freelance web designer&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Clear Books provides &#8220;online accounting software&#8221; and this is a keyword that people often search for before they find our website.<\/p>\n<p>You can research how popular keywords are using this free tool from Google: https:\/\/adwords.google.com\/o\/KeywordTool<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2: Research Google results<br \/>\n<\/strong>Once you have a list of popular keywords, search for them in Google. If I were doing this for Clear Books I would search for &#8220;online accounting \u00a0software&#8221;. Google returns all the websites that it thinks are relevant to that keyword in order of priority &#8211; that&#8217;s exactly what search results are!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3: Make contact<br \/>\n<\/strong>You have a list of websites that Google thinks are really important for your keyword.<\/p>\n<p>Visit each website and dismiss competitors. For websites that are not competitors, find the contact details and fire off a friendly email to ask if that website will link to your website, exchange links or allow you to post a guest article. Nick Bernard wrote great article on how to reach out for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portent.com\/blog\/seo\/outreach-email-instructographic.htm\">link request<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These links will be really valuable for letting Google know that your website is also related to the particular keyword.<\/p>\n<p>Sceptical whether this actually works?
