The invoice\u00a0retains\u00a0features of our previous invoice template such as\u00a0a bespoke\u00a0company logo and contact details, option to display payment details, and all\u00a0necesary fields for a valid VAT invoice.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Getting Started<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The getting started process has been made more robust to ensure that first time users set up the accounts system correctly. A key feature of this is confirming the first accounting period and therefore the start date for using the software.<\/p>\n<p>This is important because Clear Books will not allow transactions to be processed prior to the start date or beyond your first year end. This ensures that<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the risk of entering dates incorrectly is minimised<\/li>\n<li>you do not include transactions that relate to a different accounting period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what happens to\u00a0sales\u00a0invoices invoiced before but paid after the start date?\u00a0At the point in time of the start date,\u00a0such invoices are collectively referred to as your opening debtor balance i.e. at the start date these customers all owed you money.<\/p>\n<p><em>Opening Debtor Balances<\/em> can be set in <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.clearbooks.co.uk\/settings\/opening-debtors\/\">Settings &gt; Getting Started &gt; Debtors<\/a>. It is simply a form that allows you to create invoices raised prior to the start date.<\/p>\n<p><em>Opening Cash Balances<\/em> can be set in <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.clearbooks.co.uk\/settings\/opening-bank\/\">Settings &gt; Getting Started &gt; Cash<\/a>. Getting your bank balance set\u00a0correctly will ensure that your Clear Books bank statement\u00a0reconciles to your actual bank statement.
